  • From a world like ours, only Twenty Minutes Into the Future

  • Babby robot learning how to feelings

  • Built to have/learn about having feelings and also to be a son/big brother, takes his duties Very Seriously

  • Outwardly emotionless, inwardly a puppy

  • ROBOT PRIDE

It's the future! AIs are starting to become close to actually being intelligent and robots are becoming more and more common. Pretty soon everyone will have their own android butler, hooray! Foreseeing that this could end kind of badly if dystopian sci-fi was at all accurate, one man decided to try his hand at building a robot that could feel to make sure robots and humans could understand each other, hopefully preventing any future robot takeovers. (...also because he wanted a kid, but just saying that wouldn't have gotten him the grant money.)

The result: Yuuichi, a sentient, almost perfectly human-seeming robot (an amazing breakthrough in and of itself). Unfortunately, his father's goal of programming him a heart was not quite so successful: Yuuichi initially could not feel emotions, or fully comprehend them in others. However, he was capable of learning, as well as setting his own goals, and so he did both: deciding that making his father and younger sister happy would be his primary directive, and that in order to accomplish that he would have to find some way of understanding feelings on his own. In this, he succeeded where his creator failed; he taught himself how to program in order to alter and update his own programming, and eventually stumbled onto the beginnings of building his own heart when he adjusted his subconscious processes to more closely resemble human thought patterns.

Even with that hurdle cleared, though, there are still things he's struggling to grasp. While his understanding of how emotions work in humans is well developed, his ability to recognize his own is not so developed. In addition, he's lonely; between his very different thought patterns and his inability to physically emote without it looking creepy (thanks, Uncanny Valley!) he's somewhat isolated. Overall, though, he's happy and proud of his own success, and eager to use his new understanding to learn more about the world and meet with other people on their own level.

objective:
Novelty! While Yuuichi's mostly developed his personality, he still doesn't have much in the way of likes or dislikes beyond very basic things (for examble, he dislikes getting hurt, but has absolutely no opinion on whether sweet tastes are better than sour ones). Novelty as an objective would get him to try more new things, as well as put him in situations he otherwise might not seek out— thus forcing him to form new opinions.

sample: Interacting with his father and sister. (Apologies for the different name (Kaito); he started out as a drastically AU version of another character I play, and I hadn't yet made the decision to give him a name of his own and turn him into an OC. The change does not alter his personality, or how I'll play him.)
